Ildjarn - Ildjarn (2013 NN Promo)


"A long time ago, there was a one man project by the name of Ildjarn. If you’re not aware of this project, it’s probably because your first encounter with black metal was Dimmu Borgir’s Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia and not Emperor’s In The Nightside Eclipse. But this album even dates further back, to the days when Emperor weren’t even Emperor yet… back when all that existed was a small 4 track and were known as Thou Shalt Suffer. Yeah, it was that long ago. Considered a highlight in the band’s career by many fans of kvlt black metal, this record just wasn’t able to win me over the same fashion. As I said, this was recorded on a 4-track machine back in the early 90s and has a very static-laden sound that is about as raw as something can be, certainly of a demo quality. Most noticeable on the disc was the constant drumbeat which never seemed to stifle despite the disc’s whopping twenty-seven tracks and close to eighty minutes of music..."
